Gap Year Position: Parasitology and Tropical Medicine Clinic

 GAP YEAR OPPORTUNITY

The Parasitology and Tropical Medicine Clinic at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, NY is looking for a highly motivated candidate to work as a Clinical Coordinator in our office. This job would be a fantastic opportunity for recent pre-health graduates who are residents of New York City and looking to build unique clinical and research experiences during their gap years before further education in medicine (MD/DO, PA, RN, NP) or public health. They are one of the most renowned Parasitology centers in the Northeast region of the United States and serve a vast immigrant community in New York City. 

The Clinical Coordinator for Parasitology would be responsible for the following: 

● Assisting the Department Coordinator with all administrative tasks of the clinic (this includes scheduling appointments, calling patients, prior authorizations, checking the Electronic Medical Record etc.) 

● Performing extensive chart review for Dr. Coyle’s research initiatives and GeoSentinel 

● Patient navigation (escorting patients to blood draw, radiology exams, pharmacy) 

● Taking vital signs and performing medication reconciliations 

● Consolidating and keeping a record of patient images and scans for future educational/research purposes 

● Liaison between Parasitology Clinic and Laboratory to ensure timely specimen result reporting

● Coordinating and participating in the research activities of the physicians in the clinic 

Dr. Christina M. Coyle, the senior physician and director of the clinic, is additionally an Associate Dean at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and is the Principal Investigator for two grants, funded by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), that aim to spread awareness of neglected tropical diseases in the United States. The Clinical Coordinator would additionally have the opportunity to serve as the Administrative Assistant on these grants and work to promote health and safety among the Latin American and West African communities in New York. 

The hourly rate is $15/hour, and the hours for a Clinical Coordinator will go up to 40 hours per week. Minimal prior clinical experience is required, and bilingual candidates (fluent in both English and Spanish) are preferred but not required.
