ACHE Admissions Update - Spring 2022

ACHE Admissions Update
Spring, 2022
From Our Office To Yours...
Match Day – a time when 4th year medical school students find out if and which residency program they will matched into for the upcoming year. Arkansas Colleges of Health Education had the honor of holding our first Match Day last year just before the inaugural ARCOM class graduated and now it is time for Match Day number two. What an exciting time! Be sure to look for this year’s Match rate in our next newsletter or on our website.

In more exciting news, in January, the ACHE School of Occupational Therapy welcomed their inaugural class. These students are taking advantage of their state-of-the-art facilities and learning skills to last them a lifetime. We are so grateful to have this group of ACHE OT students on our campus!

While the ARCOM and ACHE School of Physical Therapy admission cycles have come to a close for this year, we are still accepting applications into our MS, Biomedicine (MSB) program with an application deadline of June 1. MSB is a 30-credit hour program designed to be completed in one year. Classes are held in the medical school building and taught by medical school faculty. More information on the MSB program, including how to apply for admission, can be found at https://acheedu.org/biomedicine/ . Most of students who enter the MSB program are interested in later attending either a medical or health professions school. The MSB program provides them with rigorous science coursework for better preparation and a potentially stronger application.

As your students show interest in any of our degree programs, please encourage them to apply early in the season. All of our degree programs operate on a rolling admission cycle, meaning that admission offers are being made as appropriate throughout the year, not waiting until after the application deadline has passed. The next admission cycle for ARCOM will open on May 4, 2022 for classes that start in late July 2023. Admission cycles for our Schools of Occupational and Physical Therapy will also open summer 2022 for classes that start May 2023. More information on all degree programs offered at ACHE can be found at https://acheedu.org/ - click on Menu and then Programs.

Lastly, I want to say THANK YOU for your support over the past school year. I can only imagine what is like trying to keep up on information from various graduate schools and career options for your students.  As you start planning for next school year, please keep us in mind. We are happy to host guests for campus tour events and/or visit your school (virtually or in-person) to share information about Arkansas Colleges of Health Education and the programs we offer – setting up an information table, presenting to classrooms, answering questions from pre-med/pre-health clubs, etc. We look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Kelly DeWitt

Faculty Excellence
Donald Sefcik, DO
Congratulations to Dr. Don Sefcik for being approved by the National Academy of Osteopathic Medical Educators (NAOME) as a NAOME Advisory Fellow. This is a new designation for individuals that had formerly been recognized as NAOME Fellows and have evolved into other roles. NAOME is a community of outstanding educators (termed Fellows) who have met rigorous standards of academic excellence within the last five years.
Lance Bridges, PhD
Dr. Lance Bridges was invited to Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK to kick off their annual Science and Technology Seminar. He spoke about his research entitled “Vitamin A Derivatives as Treatments for Lymphoma” and attested to the quality of the programs available at ACHE for recruitment. This will be the first of three invited talks at different universities Dr. Bridges will deliver this semester.
Dr. LaVona Traywick represented ACHE at The Arc for the River Valley advocacy meeting where she spoke about the school of physical therapy’s partnership with Community Connections, the ICan demonstration and loan center, and the inter-professional teaching clinic.
Also pictured are Sue Conaway from the Arkansas Department of Human Services, Francy Ford Executive Director of The Ark for the River Valley, and Jocelyn Mitchell from In-Sync Pediatric therapy who is the chairman of the advocacy board.
