Paying Back your Health Program Loans: HRSA Resources

HRSA Site: https://bhw.hrsa.gov/funding/apply-loan-repayment#nhsclrp

One of the (many) scary aspects about any health profession is the cost of attendance. Especially when many programs do not allow their students to work so as to promote focus on the necessary content to enter a health profession, the impending mountain of debt can be overwhelming.

However! Before you let the ticket shock get the better of you, there are ways of repaying back that debt after you graduate (beyond smart financial decisions, careful money management, etc.).

HRSA  Health Workforce is a great way of exploring your options for grants, loan repayment programs, and scholarships. This post will primarily focus on the Loan Repayment aspect, but links will be provided below for each program.

The HRSA loan repayment programs (LRP) include: the Nurse Corps LRP, National Health Service Corps (NHSC) LRP, Substance Use Disorder Treatment and Recovery (STAR) LRP, and Faculty (F) LRP. Each program outlines specific eligibility requirement and expected "service time" and locations for assistance.
