USC Bovard Scholars Pre-Med Academy
We are excited to announce that the application for the new USC Bovard Scholars Pre-Med Academy is now open. We are looking for the opportunity to work with first generation, low income, high-achieving, pre-medical students from now until they have applied to medical school. We are seeking students who are 2-3 years from applying to medical school given where we are in our programming for the cohort.
The Pre-Med Academy is a program designed to guide scholars through navigating the selection of academics, gaining all the necessary experiences, and putting together a strong application for medical school at a time that is right for the scholar. It is not a one-size fits all program where everyone follows the same path. We will work with our scholars on an individual basis and provide the support that makes them the best applicant possible.
Some programmatic activities will include workshops, meet n greets with current students, residents, physicians and Admissions support. The scholars will also participate in an MCAT prep course with the timing guided by when they are submitting an application to medical school.
There is no charge to the scholars for this program and we are seeking those who are considered low income. We are asking for letters of evaluation from someone who can support the student’s plans for medicine. This letter may be from an academic advisor, mentor, faculty member and they will be asked to complete a form with a few questions attesting to the students’ aspirations and fit for the program.
For this pilot year, we’re looking for college sophomores from different colleges and universities nationwide, to fill our first cohort. We will encourage students to continue utilizing your support, the pre-health programming you provide, and all the resources available at their home institutions, while offering them a personalized path, MCAT prep, nationwide peer community support, and access to a variety of guest speakers and experts.
Check out the application and website link to apply. We are looking to fill our first class quickly. Applications received by November 8, 2021 will make it into our first priority review round. If space is remaining after the Nov. 8 review, we will continue accepting students on a rolling basis until our cohort is full, with the final submission opportunity of November 30.
I welcome any questions or conversations about the program. Please reach out to me any time at ccrispen@usc.edu.
