The Marian Regional Medical Center Emergency Department is currently developing a Spanish Interpreter Program for bilingual students interested in health care or who have any interest in working as a Spanish interpreter. This program is scheduled to begin in August 2021.
Interested students will need to pass a Spanish competency test (no medical terms on it) in order to apply. Selected students will train for 1-2 weeks before starting to work in the emergency department. Training is paid ($15/hour), and afterward, students can take the hospital interpreter test to continue on as interpreters.
The program acknowledges that students often have many obligations, and resultingly will be very flexible with scheduling. In addition to being paid, students will have the opportunity to receive a letter of recommendation and will gain valuable, first-hand experience in a busy, high-acuity emergency department.
Students interested in the program should scan the QR code on the flyer below to complete a short interest form.
The program is currently just collecting a list of interested students. Later this summer (2021), more details will be made available and the program will be reaching out to any students that have completed the interest form. At that time, students will be asked to fill out a more comprehensive application for the position.
If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact Dr. Alicia Gonzalez, the Emergency Medicine Medical Director at Marian: Alicia.Kurtz@vituity.com
