ABOUT US

The Skaggs Pharm.D. program is a traditional four-year program that combines rigorous basic science education with extensive and varied clinical and interprofessional experiences in and outside of the classroom while offering training and support by highly accomplished and caring faculty, staff and administrators. We are passionate about the importance of pharmacy for rural communities, and committed to the highest quality of education and academic support in a student-centered environment with dedicated faculty, staff and administrators. The students are involved early in clinical experiences and health outreach; and throughout their studies continue with progressively challenging clinical experiences.

In addition to solid high-quality education, our program offers unique clinical experiences and exposure throughout the Pharm.D. program, equipping our graduates with skills for providing pharmaceutical care as a member of an interprofessional team, population health and outreach, and rural and underserved health:

  • Pharmacy-based immunization training and certificate during first semester of pharmacy school.
  • Innovative small group discussion and problem-solving throughout P1-P3 years.
  • Students provide immunizations and wellness screenings to the UM campus and people in Montana who may not have access to these services.
  • Variety of clinical embedded introductory pharmacy experiences and simulations in the didactic curriculum through P1-P3 years.
  • Frequent college- and statewide interprofessional experiences.
  • Availability of longitudinal introductory practice experiences and training in antibiotic stewardship.
  • Required clinical rotations and experiences in rural and underserved health.
  • In-house Medication Therapy Management (MTM) Center and retail pharmacy.
  • Extensive dual degree offerings: Pharm.D./Ph.D., Pharm.D./M.S., Pharm.D./MPH, and Pharm.D./MBA.
  • Opportunity to participate in International Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs) in India, Borneo, Scotland, France, Peru, and/or Romania.
