Our goals are to prevent youth, and all non-smokers, from becoming tobacco users, to assist smokers in their efforts to quit, to reduce exposure to second smoke, and to protect the public from the harmful effects of tobacco.
The TPP works to achieve its goals through systems-level policy change, namely the passing of local
ordinances focused on tobacco control. This policy work is made possible through maintaining an active
and engaged coalition and community. The TPP is also responsible for implementation of such policies
which may include technical assistance to policy makers and city staff, outreach and education to tobacco
retailers, and training law enforcement. Education is at the core of our work and TPP staff serve as the
preeminent tobacco control experts in the County.
The TPP’s work is made possible through funding from Propositions 56 and 99 which is allocated by the
CA Tobacco Control Program. The CA Tobacco Control Program requires extensive reporting and
evaluation of TPP activities. Every four years the TPP conducts a thorough Needs Assessment and drafts
a new workplan that best addresses the community's tobacco control priorities.
