2020-2021 Gap Year Opportunity: City Year AmeriCorps

During this uncertain time, City Year is a unique opportunity for young people (ages 18-25) to not only make a positive impact on students, schools, and communities, but it is also an opportunity to invest in themselves and use service to develop skills they'll need in future careers or educational opportunities. City Year AmeriCorps members serve in schools all day, every day, preparing students with the social, emotional, and academic skills and mindsets to succeed in school and life.

As a City Year AmeriCorps member, you'll work long days within a complex school system with many partners and stakeholders. You will manage relationships and expectations with teammates, school staff, partner teachers, students, families, and the school district. Many of the students you'll be helping reach their potential live in systemically under-resourced communities where external factors can make it hard for students to come to school ready to learn every day. These obstacles may include food and housing insecurity, trauma, or health or safety issues.

No matter what the start to the next school year brings, CityYear AmeriCorps members will be there to support students whether it is in person or virtually.
