Summer Opportunity: Be a Camp Counselor at Camp Sweeney

Camp Sweeney is a summer camp located in Gainesville, Texas that focuses on serving children that have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

Sweeney counselors act as doctor, nurse, parent, teacher, and friend to their campers. Counselors work alongside a medical staff of physicians, residents, and medical students to care for the campers. In the course of a day, counselors will supervise hundreds of blood tests, administer insulin injections, and provide treatment for low and high blood sugars. At the same time, counselors lead over 30 different activities during the day and special events at night. Counselors also live alongside campers in one of our 8 cabins. Counselors gain valuable hands-on experience working both autonomously and with a supportive team and, most importantly, make a difference in the lives of children with a life-long medical condition.

This is a great opportunity to further your knowledge of a disease that affects approximately 1.25 million Americans, as well as interact with numerous physicians, residents, and medical students.

Three different sessions will be offered for the summer of 2020:

  • First Session: June 7 - 25, 2020
  • Second Session: June 28 - July 16, 2020
  • Third Session: July 19 - August 6, 2020
