Gates Summer Internship Program at the University of Colorado

The Gates Center Summer Internship Program (GSIP) encourages outstanding undergraduates to consider careers in biomedical research in an academic or industry setting by providing state-of-the-art training opportunities at the Gates Center.

All undergraduate students that are in a science-related major and that are enrolled in an undergraduate program at the time of application are eligible to apply. Former GSIP interns are highly encouraged to apply.

All GSIP interns will have the opportunity to participate in various activities throughout the summer, including:

  • Biweekly Career Development and Scientific Lecture Series: Topics include scientific writing, diversity topics, research ethics, and graduate and medical school career choices and strategies. The scientific lectures will cover current research and discoveries in diverse fields such as cancer, ophthalmology, orthopedics, and stem cell and regenerative medicine.
  • Career Development Lunch Series: This series focuses on networking and professionalism, the stages of the academic scientific path, opportunities in the private and public sector, and applying to graduate school.
  • Social Activities: Opportunities to mingle with interns, Gates Center staff and mentors, and GSIP supporters. Other planned activities include a rafting trip, a picnic, an ice cream social to be held on campus and a last day dinner.
  • Community Outreach: An opportunity to give back to Colorado and the community by joining the annual Mallets for Melanoma charity polo tournament that will be held on July 28 or August 4 at the Denver Polo Club. GSIP students will be able to participate in the planning and/or volunteer on the day of the event.
  • End of Program Activities: A group photo will be taken and a keynote lecture by an eminent scientist. A poster competition will follow where the top 5 presentations will be awarded a prize and showcased at the Gates Center.
