- Pre-Health Advising

Cal Poly Pre-Health Advising is hosting a pre-health professions Dinner with a Doctor with Dr. Bruce Jones (retired orthopedic physician) at his home on Thursday, April 2nd from 6:30 - 8:00 pm. Hors d'oeuvres will be served at 6:30 pm with dinner at 7:00 pm.

This is a wonderful opportunity to come enjoy a tasty pot-luck style meal, interact with your Cal Poly peers and informally chat with Bruce and his co-host Dr. April Kennedy, M.D. about your health professions career interests. They are both happy to share their wisdom and perspective practicing medicine. Come learn about what medicine really entails!

Here is a quick bio on these two physicians:
  • Dr. Bruce Jones practiced as both a primary care physician for 7 years and as an orthopedic physician for 33 years. He graduated from Wayne State University Medical School in Detroit and completed his Orthopedic Surgery residency at Washington University in St. Louis. For the last several years, he specialized in joint replacement surgery. He is now retired and lives in Templeton, CA and enjoys spending time with his grandchildren.
  • Dr. Kathleen April Kennedy, M.D. is a Board Certified physician in Hematology and Medical Oncology. Her practice involves the management of all types of tumors as well as benign and malignant hematologic conditions. Her undergraduate education was at the University of Oklahoma. Before going to medical school, she obtained a masters degree in Developmental Genetics and was involved in research at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. She went to medical school at University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. She did her internal medicine residency at University of California Davis, and following that, did her fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. She is married and has two children and appears to have struck a good balance between her medical career and her family life
This event is FREE and you are not expected to bring anything unless you want to contribute to the meal. The dinner will take place at Bruce's home in Templeton on Thursday, April 2nd from 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm. No alcohol permitted.

Sign-ups are limited to 20 students. Sign up soon to be sure you can take advantage of this opportunity! Directions to his home will be provided to the first 20 who sign up (carpools are encouraged and sign-ups for carpooling will happen a week prior to the event).
