Article: "Stemming the Opioid Epidemic"

In his 2017 contribution to the AAMC, Greg Breining sought out to identify the source(s) of the opioid epidemic that has emerged in the US over the past two decades. Two years later, and not much has changed despite dramatic public health efforts to combat this crisis. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the amount of opioids sold has quadrupled since 1999, and more than 22,000 people died from prescription opioid overdoses in 2015 alone.
